Monitor Doktor is an independent online magazine for people who would like to walk into a surgery, a dental chair or a pharmacy feeling a little better prepared. We write about the parts of health that most of us meet as patients rather than as experts: routine check-ups, looking after teeth and gums, stress and low mood, giving up cigarettes, and the small daily habits that sit underneath all of it.
The name is a nudge rather than a job title. To monitor something is simply to keep an eye on it, and the doctor in the name is the person you eventually talk to. Our part happens in between: noticing what is going on, writing it down, and turning a vague worry into a clear question. Nobody on our side examines, treats or prescribes, and we never pretend otherwise.
What we cover
- Check-ups and health care — how appointments tend to run, what a routine physical usually involves, and how to make a short consultation count. A good first read is our guide to what to expect at an annual physical.
- Oral health — brushing, flossing, dental visits and the bigger treatments people ask about, such as implants.
- Mind and mood — pressure at work, restless nights, and the point at which talking to someone becomes the sensible next step.
- Quitting smoking — getting ready for a quit day, riding out cravings and understanding the options people weigh up along the way.
- Everyday wellness — sleep, food, movement and routines, written for ordinary weeks rather than ideal ones.
How we write
We start from the questions patients actually ask, often the ones that only surface on the way home from an appointment. Each article tries to explain one thing well, in plain language, and to say honestly where general information stops and individual advice has to begin. If a topic depends on your medical history, your medicines or a test result, the article says so and points you towards a doctor, dentist or pharmacist.
We avoid miracle claims, scare stories and made-up numbers. When the general guidance on a subject moves on, we revisit the page. Our fact-checking notes describe the kinds of sources we lean on, and the corrections policy explains what happens when we get something wrong.
What we are not
Monitor Doktor is a reading resource and nothing more. We do not book appointments, hold consultations, sell treatments or answer personal medical questions by email. The health disclaimer sets out these limits in more detail, and it is worth a quick look before you act on anything you read here.
Where to begin
If you are new, Basics First suggests a sensible reading order, and Terms in Plain English translates words that often come up at appointments. To send a question, an idea for an article or a correction, the contact page explains how to reach us.
